Church House, designed by Sir Herbert Baker in 1930, is a grade II listed building that holds great historical and religious value. It served as the official headquarters of the Church of England, which was opened by King George VI in 1940. During World War II, the building provided parliamentary meeting facilities for both houses, and it continues to support significant organizations such as the United Nations and the UN Security Council.
Tilbury Douglas Paragon were appointed to complete a phased refurbishment of the internal of the building. As part of the two-stage tender process Capitol were appointed to complete the works required to the Mechanical Services
Paragon’s refurbishment of Church House for The Corporation of the Church House (TCCH) provided over 45,000 sq ft of modern flexible office facilities for new and existing tenants, and elevated the existing cores, common areas, and entrances.
The Mechanical services were retained and reused where possible but due to the age of the existing installation most of the distribution pipework and ductwork were replaced. The 4 pipe fan coils were retained and were overhauled and serviced onsite. The BMS was upgraded to suit the new equipment and all central plant was overhauled. All W/C’s were stripped out and refitted to provide a modern feel to the installation.
